Alongside the Mi Note 2, Xiaomi today unveiled a beautiful concept phone: the Mi MIX. The Chinese company has long been known for copying designs from Apple for its products, but this time around, Xiaomi is looking to prove the world that it can come up with some stunning products and designs of its own as well.
The Mi MIX is a concept phone from Xiaomi that comes with an “edgeless design.” While we have seen many bezel-less phones before, the Mi MIX is probably the best of them all. It comes with a gigantic 6.4-inch screen with a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio. The top of the phone is completely devoid of any bezels, with the earpiece and proximity sensor being smartly hidden by the company thanks to new technological innovations. By using piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology, users would be able to listen to calls on the Mi MIX even though the phone lacks an earpiece grille. The piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology, Xiaomi says, converts electrical signals into mechanical energy to make it possible. The phone also houses an ultrasonic proximity sensor that sits behind the display, another first for a smartphone and a technology that helps the Mi MIX achieve its bezel-less look. The front camera on the Mi MIX is located at the bottom bezel, with the sensor being 50 percent smaller than a traditional camera sensor. The display features a custom 17:9 aspect ratio to maximise screen space, with its corners being rounded at the edges to give an immersive look.
The display is not the only highlight of the Mi MIX. Xiaomi has worked with renowned designer Philippe Starck on the minimalistic design of the Mi MIX that is made from ceramic for extra durability and strength. The handset is also a powerhouse and features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset, up to 6GB RAM, and 256GB of UFS 2.0 storage. Other specs include GPS with sensor-assisted positioning, NFC with Mi Pay support, 16MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, and a massive 4400mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. Despite being a concept phone, Xiaomi will be selling the Mi MIX to consumers starting from November 4th. The 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the phone will be available for RMB 3499. A limited edition Mi MIX featuring 6GB RAM, 256GB storage, and 18-karat gold rims around the rear camera and fingerprint sensor will also be available for RMB 3999. The Mi MIX proves that Xiaomi can build phones with beautiful phones without having to copy the designs from other OEMs. What do you think about the Mi MIX?
